Marcelo Lombardero

Argentine stage director. Born into a family of artists devoted to the operatic tradition, he began his musical career at a young age, performing as a baritone in numerous theatres across the Americas and Europe.

After retiring from the stage in 2005, he became Artistic Director of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where he also founded and directed the Chamber Opera. From 2008 to 2013, he served as Artistic Director of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata.

He is currently the Artistic Director of the Compañía Nacional de Ópera de Bellas Artes in Mexico.

Throughout his career, he has directed productions in major theatres across South America, Europe, and North America. Among his most notable productions are:

In 2013, he founded TMC (Teatro Musical Contemporáneo), an independent musical theatre company. His work Bromas y Lamentos, based on compositions by Monteverdi and Cavalli, was presented in Buenos Aires, Miami, and Mexico City.

In 2007, he was named Distinguished Citizen of Paraná, his hometown.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of OLA (Ópera Latinoamericana), of which he is co‑founder and first vice president.
